Starburst Bushcrafter
Starburst Bushcrafter
This solid field knife is forged from w2 with a differentially treated edge featuring clay hamon, showing the line between the hard edge and the tough back of the blade. The 4.75 inch cutting edge is flat ground with a convex edge that is stropped to a hair popping edge. The hardware, including the dovetailed bolsters, are nickel silver, including the pins, corby bolt and lanyard tube. The handle is crafted from local black walnut wood with nickel silver and copper inlays in a radiating starburst pattern. Black fiber liners show off the vine filework running up the spine. This is a knife covered with beautiful details, from the hamon on the blade to the hand peened pins to the inlay. This is a beautiful and unique knife that you can be proud to own or give.
The wire inlay in this knife was inspired by some Cambodian knives I brought home from a trip. The patterns were different and the handles were bone, but the idea was the same. I’ve always enjoyed radiating symmetrical patterns like mandalas, so putting the two together on this knife seemed like a great fit. The fireball on the sides burst and diminishes from bright silver to warm copper as the stardust cools in the swirling void of the black walnut.
